Previous and current positions

Joël Gessler serves as a collection manager and consultant for both national and international private and corporate clients. Since 2020, he has been working, alongside other projects, for Swiss Post’s art department.

In the WhatsApp group «Art-Ticker», Joël Gessler shares information about art and the art market, organizes visits to artists’ studios, galleries, and museums, and presents works by both emerging and established artists.

For the art and fashion magazine STUDIO, Joël Gessler serves as the curator responsible for the art content and, with artindustryindex.com, he is developing a research platform that indexes companies in the art industry.

Joël Gessler is a member of the Board of Trustees of the BEST Art Collection in his hometown of Lucerne. The foundation purchasesimportant works and gives them to the Museum of Art Lucerne on permanent loan.

He is also strongly committed to the young Swiss artscene. To promote emerging Swiss artists, he has been running the non-profitplatform upandcoming.ch for 10 years now, where selected artists under the ageof 45 can present themselves and their works.

Professional experience

He gained experience as a collection manager and consultant at the UBS Art Collection and at a Zurich-based single-family office. In the art department of the family office, his activities included advising on art purchases and sales as well as organizing commercial and non-commercial exhibitions. Previously, Joël Gessler worked as project manager at Art Basel Miami Beach and at the Beijing branch of Galerie Urs Meile.

Education

Joël Gessler holds a degree in graphic design from the Lucerne School of Art and Design and a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in contemporary Chinese art from Zurich University of the Arts. Since 2022, he holds a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Arts Management from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences.
